The Seventh-day Adventist (S.D.A.) College of Education at Asokore near Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana was established on 26th October, 1962 by the S.D.A. Church. The College is about 84 Kilometers from Accra, the National Capital. It sits on an area of 135.9 hectares about 88.75 of land. The College began with 120 Students. Since its inception, it has run several programmes. The College began as a Post-primary, Four Year Certificate “A” Teacher Training Institution. The year 1974 saw the short-lived Two-Year Art Specialist Programme for Trained Teachers.


As a result of the then Education Reforms, the College was transformed into Three Year Post-Secondary Institution offering Vocational, Commercial, Home Science and Arts Courses in 1975. Further changes in the structure of teacher training programme in the country have led to the College offering Diploma in Basic Education. The programme started in2004. The Education Act of 2008 saw the upgrading of Teacher Training Colleges into Tertiary Status and designated as Colleges of Education.

The College has an accreditation which spans from 1st September 2013 to 31st August 2018 (Five Years) with Accreditation Certificate Number : NAB/IAV/No. 0000876 to run Diploma in Basic Education Programme. The college which was previously affiliated to University of cape Coast (UCC) is now affiliated to the University of Winneba (UEW) running a Four (4) Year Degree Programme in Early Grade Education, Primary Education and J. H. S. Education.
